(Avis de la rédaction)Je ne sais absolument pas ce que signifie ce Edi Olvitt, nom de groupe insolite que ce trio a choisi. Qu’importe. C’est leur musique qui compte. Et elle est formidable.
Edi Olvitt, donc, est né à l’occasion de la carte blanche donnée à Mathieu Robert (sax soprano) pour un concert au Bravo, un club de jazz bruxellois. Mathieu Robert a réuni ses amis Quentin Stokart à la guitare et Nicolas Chkifi à la batterie. Un trio sans basse, c’est inhabituel. Mais ça fonctionne, et bien.
Huit morceaux composés par les membres du groupe. Et un jazz résolument contemporain, fait d’atmosphères, de sonorités, de mélodies susurrées ou criées. On entend l’influence de Steve Lacy, de Bill Frisell, de Paul Motian. Comme si chaque musicien avait été influencé par son icône : le sax soprano lascif de Lacy, la guitare réinventée de Frisell, la batterie romantique de Paul Motian.
Un album à écouter en boucle pour en surprendre toutes les richesses.

EDI OLVITT is a trio of three composers and improvisers based in Brussels. The group started in 2014 for a « carte blanche »to Mathieu Robert (Fatik, Harvest Group) in the well knowned jazz club called « Bravo ».
With his fellow friends Quentin Stokart (L’oeil Kollectif) on guitar and Nicolas Chkifi (Gang, Doko, Bambeen Grey) on drums this bassless trio brings a fresh sound to the Belgian jazz scene.
Since 2014, the music and the compositions evoluates and brings melody, contemplation but also contrast, energy and fire. Their music is influenced by Bill Frisell, Paul Motian, John Zorn, Steve Lacy,…
EDI OLVITT first album will be released early 2016 for the Portuguese label Creative Source.
